New and return clients showed increased confidence in the strength of Wallawong Murray Greys’ breeding program at the 14th Annual Carcase Quality Sale at ‘Marriot Park’ Gunnedah onThursday 14 July. Impressive weights and eye muscle areas combined with finishing ease appealed to both stud and commercial breeders that travelled from Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and throughout NSW.
18 bulls sold to a top of $14,500 and average of $4500, reflecting the solid competition for lots throughout the sale. 16 registered heifers also sold to a top of $2000 and an average of $1425. Several new milestones with the sale were achieved by principals Lachlan and Kate James who described the sale as “a great endorsement of our carcase quality focus”.
The $14,500 top priced bull was the Star Lot 1 Wallawong Ripsnorter, an 1100kg son of Lindsay Starbright S117 that had been one of the James’ top stud sires before being prepared for sale as a rising four year old. He combined outstanding physical muscling and visual appeal with proven multi trait leading growth EBVs. Purchased by Groveleigh Partnership, Tamworth NSW, Ripsnorter had an EMA EBV in the top 1% of the breed and growth traits in the top 5%. His raw EMA scan was 128 cm2 with fat scans of 15mm and 10 mm on rump and rib.
Two bulls made $6500, the first being Lot 3 Wallawong Trailblazer. By Monterey Sensational out of elite female line Dawn Y14, 850kg Trailblazer combined outstanding growth traits with softness and eye appeal. His raw EMA scan was 115 cm2 with fat scans of 20 mm and 12 mm on rump and rib. Return Wallawong clients John and Debbie Taber of Bonnie Doon Pastoral Co, purchased the bull for their commercial operation near Delungra, NSW.
